"You look like her grandfather..."

So there I was, going into the store when I see a mom and her toddler heading out of the store towards the door. So I stand there and hold the door open for them. The little girl spies me and runs over to grab onto my coat. Mom is now apologizing while trying to pry her daughter away from me. When she finally gets the kid to release her hold the mom looks at me and says, "I'm really sorry about this, I think she is doing this because you look like her grandfather"... That's just great. I'm 45 years old... Should I just throw in the towel now and get the Buick, the wrap around sunglasses, and the suspenders, and be done with it???? ;)

Truck series - Benson vs. Hornaday

It's time. They are about to roll off the grid for the last race of what has been a very competitive nascar truck racing series this year. Down to the final race to determine the champion. Johnny Benson vs. Ron Hornaday What's your call? I think Benson is due, so I'd like to see him win this thing.

RE: Earnhardt Ganassi Racing

I do know a little something about college football and have first hand experience in that field. So I'll just limit my comments to those topics. Chuck. With all due respect, bagman. I would hope you don't limit your comments to just those topics. Part of what makes for a value-added discussion forum is the diversity of opinions and viewpoints. I hate to point out the obvious but that is kind of how discussions work. If we limit input to only those with specific background on the topic then we end up with the same two three people talking to each other, and the social aspects of the community are severally hampered. I hope you continue to put in your .02 on the subject of racing/nascar, as I believe it adds value to the discussion and the community.

RE: Earnhardt Ganassi Racing

It's like the guy that implies that Sabates is some kind of shady character. Heck, he's just a Cuban who made lots of money in Miami real estate AND in yacht sales. And, he loves racing. For crying out loud, Cloud Dancer, you have got to lighten up on this stuff. I hate to break it to you, you are not the only "real" nascar fan out there. Just because some folks have a sense of humor and can poke fun that the sport they like doesn't make them any less of a fan. This is supposed to be FUN, it doesn't have to be so serious, after all, in the final analysis it is just a sport we are talking about here. Just because people may have some criticism of the sport does not make them evil haters bent on destroying nascar. I can understand having passion for the sport but you seem hypersensitive about what should be a fun pass-time in discussing said sport. You seem to feel the need to jump to nascars defense just about anytime anyone says anything that could even be remotely construed as negative towards the sport. Your background in racing allows you provide interesting insight into some racing topics, I just don't understand why you need to take the subject of nascar so seriously in these nascar threads. Nascar and those individuals who make up nascar are public figures in a high profile sport, and as such help to make discussion about said sport interesting and entertaining for the fans. To a degree, nascar is less about the "racing" and more about the various characters who make up the sport. The human drama and personalities on and off the track provides for good entertainment and basis for fan discussion throughout the week.

RE: Earnhardt Ganassi Racing

The combined team will be called Earnhardt Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates LOL, "with Felix Sabates"... This Felix character always cracks me up, he is like Guido, always kind of hanging around in the background, but you are never really sure what he actually does. And not even sure if whatever he does is legal. :) Makes you wonder if he is really a money kingpin or if he has something over on Ganassi, like pictures or something.... ;) I love the drama of Nascar!

Ding on credit report?

We have subscribed to a credit monitoring service and I received an email alert this morning of a possible "negative entry" on our report. It said Wells Fargo - "lost or stolen card". Three days ago wells fargo fraud division called me with a possible fraudulent charge on our card of .01, which they say is usually the crooks pinging a bunch of numbers until they hit on one that works. They put a hold on the account until they could contact me about the .01 charge (which is a good thing). Obviously we do not make .01 charges on our card. Even though Wells Fargo did not allow the .01 charge, they said the account needed to be closed and issued new cards with new account numbers. So, the crooks try to steal my credit, and I'm the one who ends up with a ding on my credit report???? Seems like there should be a different code entry for this that is not considered a "negative". Anybody else have this type of thing happpen?

Need a new dishwasher

Our trusty 20+ year old built-in GE dishwasher is making noises it should not be making and it is getting worse every week. Suspect it is the pump and I will begin research to see if parts are still available and affordable, but based on recent experience with other older appliances I don't hold out much hope for this route. What kind of features to look for in a dishwasher? Any particular make/model, or features that you particularly like? Thanks Wayne

RE: What's free in this World? Some things are .

There are things you can do to bring joy into others lives that are free, like spending time with someone, volunteering to help others etc.

I caught Kyle Petty on one of the nascar talking head shows this morning and he had a cap on that had his car number and a black line through the number. Anybody know the scoop?

RE: How many states have you lived in.....?

One State = Washington for all my 45 years. Three generations of my family in this area as residents and business owners. My 18 year old son graduated this year from the same high school that I graduated from back in 1981. I hope to be able to move out of my moms basement next year.... ;):)

RE: NASCAR - more cheating?

At least this sheet metal thing is somewhat creative, ala Smokey Yunick. Certainly more creative than the recent magnetic spacer under the throttle pedal.

RE: Boy, do I feel stupid....

I'm 45 or maybe it's 46, and I have terrible CRS, to the point that it is embarrassing at times. I frequently forget where I park my truck, but fortunately it has the panic alarm thingy on the key fob so I just set that off and usually can find it then.

RE: Boeing machinists are on strike.......

I agree, it makes absolutely no sense at all, go against your employer enough times and eventually you may find yourself looking for a new one.

Scanning negatives and slides into digital format?

One of my projects this winter is to begin scanning a bunch of our pictures/negatives into digital format, including a bunch of my fathers slides from his time in the service. I realize I could pay somebody to do this but I like to do for myself when possible. Does anybody have experience with this process? Using one of these negative/slide scanners like this one? http://tiny.cc/PrimeFilmscanner http://content.costco.com/Images/Content/Product/760439L.jpg
